The Spotted Lantern Fly Problem here on Long Island is ongoing and increasing by the year. This is because the Spotted Lanternfly is a destructive, invasive and multiplying species that has no known predator to control their population. Just a few of the trees and plants on our properties that are most affected by the Spotted Lanternfly are: Tree of Heaven, Willow Trees, Maple Trees, Fruit Trees (plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines and apricots) Apple Trees, Pine Trees and Grape Vines. The Spotted Lanternfly causes damage by sucking the sap, causing wilting, dieback, and excreting a sticky “honeydew” liquid that attaches to the leaves of our trees and plants that promotes harmful, sooty mold fungus.
This fungus causes damage to our trees that eventually causes death to the tree and plant. They also create a huge mess to our yards and impact out outdoor enjoyment of our properties constantly. This poses a huge economic threat to our ecosystem.
They do damage by sucking the sap from plants and trees, this causes a significant threat to our economy, disrupting our farms, vineyards, neighborhoods and especially our backyards.

Swarming & Mess: Large swarms cover our trees and our backyards, the honeydew makes outdoor spaces and outdoor furniture and backyard gatherings harder to enjoy because of the mass of insects present. The massive infestation of Spotted Lantern Fly here on Long Island will attract other insects that will do damage to other trees and plants and create an ecosystem where other bugs can thrive. Mosquitoes can be drawn to damp areas where mold grows from the sooty mold itself. This will make our family fun in backyards less enjoyable from the large presence of mosquitoes.
